Reducing our CO2 footprint

Sustainability is now a key business factor. We help clients reduce energy consumption through the right adhesive choice and process optimization.

Industrial plant transitioning to renewable energy

Sustainability is now a huge factor in the global economy - major companies and governments are driving a shift toward a circular model, less waste and lower emissions. According to analyses, as much as 73% of greenhouse gas emissions result directly from energy consumption: transport, electricity, heating. The Paris Agreement aims to limit global warming to 1.5°C - and every industry must contribute.

At first glance, adhesive seems like a small product component that consumers almost never think about. That's exactly why choosing the right adhesive matters so much. Our responsibility at Lumennis is to lead, educate and improve our clients' applications so we can jointly reduce our CO2 impact.

Three directions of action with direct impact

  • Adhesive mileage - How efficient your adhesive can be. Lower adhesive consumption with greater production efficiency.
  • Lower application temperatures - Enable lower energy consumption and a more efficient production process.
  • Technomelt Supra ECO - a carbon-negative adhesive. An innovative solution that helps reduce the carbon footprint and supports more sustainable production.

1. Adhesive mileage

Our goal is to increase adhesive efficiency through innovative formulations, so a smaller amount of product is needed for the same performance. Lower adhesive consumption means a lower CO₂ impact during production and transport, along with better process fit. Thanks to their high density, our adhesives achieve the same productivity with less material.

Adhesives with self-cleaning properties further reduce production downtime and contribute to greater process efficiency.

2. Lower operating temperatures

Lowering the adhesive's operating temperature can significantly help reduce emissions during production. Our low-temperature application technology enables efficient operation from as low as 95°C and cuts energy consumption by up to 40%, while standard hot melt adhesives often require temperatures up to 180°C.

Lowering the application temperature is one of the simplest ways to reduce energy consumption - it affects usage during machine start-up as well as maintaining the operating temperature throughout the whole production process. The effects are especially significant in chilled and frozen production environments.

3. Technomelt Supra ECO

The world's first carbon-negative hot melt adhesive, ISCC-certified, delivering a saving of 0.4419 kg CO₂ per kilogram of adhesive.

While standard hot melt adhesives have a carbon footprint of approximately 3-4 kg CO₂ per kilogram of product, Technomelt Supra ECO enables a significant reduction in emissions without the need for additional equipment. It can be used on existing application systems, making it a simple and effective way to achieve your sustainability goals. Learn more →
